Sorry I didn't post back right away - tried to but password wouldn't work (I was probably making typos!).
My wife spoke to our vet and they said it was most likely due to a problem he has with his liver. He's had a couple of seizures and has been on phenobarb for a while now. Vet did more thoruogh testing and decided the liver is definitely the culprit! Who'da thunk?!! So, with proper med and strict diet he should be fine. We have our old, lovable george back!:)

BTW, the vet kept raving about his weight! She's never seen such a perfectly built basset!!! She kept squeezing around his waist saying it wouldn't even hurt if he gained a pound or two - something she's NEVER told another Basset owner!!! :D
