I have a 6 month old basset female who by all indications is coming into heat. My question is how long does this go on and basically what can I expect. We do not want to breed her until she is around 1-1/2 or 2 (if we get though this period in one piece) Not having had a female animal before this is a new experience for us in that she is behaving like a male dog, trying to "hump" our legs, marking her territory outside (I didn't know she had that much water in her!!)
Any information would be appreciated, also what might be the best time to breed.
