Charlie's Story

Charlie

We got Charlie from the Basset Hound Rescue League in So. California. He is a 3 year old male that thinks he is still a puppy. He was abused by his last owners and has a trust issue with all Men (he has started to train me). He is a very loving dog with a heart of gold.

Our 9 year old Grandson lives with us after the death of his father in August, Michael was have trouble sleeping through the night. The first night Charlie was with us he took up residency on Mikes bed and Both sleep through the night. They are inseparable and have become "best friends". Charlie know when Mike is due home from School, he wakes up from his afternoon nap about 5 minutes before Mike walks through the door. If Mike is late he waits for him by the door when he is not checking each room of our house. Charlie is a God send and is helping the healing process for both Mike and our Daughter.

It is extremely funny to see Charlie and Mike ride his Razor Scooter (Mike rides and Charlie runs next to him Barking). We had our last Basset (also a rescue Basset) for 14 Years and we can only hope for the same from our newest member of the family.

I just thought you might like to know the "rest of the story". John you have created a great site for the Hound Lover of the world.

Update 1/16/2001

After gaining 19 lbs. and getting a polyp removed from polyp removed he is doing fine. He still sleeps with Mike and when Mike is gone he sleeps in his room.

For being an abused dog he is responding to our family credo "Food is Love". The Vet says he is about 7 or 8 years old but he still has his puppy moments. His favorite toy is his stuffed rat that is missing his tail, half his stuffing and smell like a Basset.

He has wrangled his way into our hearts and there is an on going debate over who's dog is he anyway.

Just though you'd like to know.

Jim
