Bassetlovers Stories!

From Carissa Feb 10th, 2001

Hello,

My name is Carissa and I live in Missouri. I have a rather amusing
story about my baby Jackson. Well, my 1 year old baby. Any time I take him
for a ride in my car he always ends up with his paws on the back of the front
passenger seat and his butt (not his legs) is perched comfortably on the back
seat. He will sit there the entire car ride, that is when he is not my
little
" surfer dog '". I call him that because he moves from side to side every
turn I make. I have never seen a dog sit in a car like a human before, he
even goes as far as to stare at people that are driving by. haha I
absolutely LOVE him to death and I am sure that any Basset owners feel the
same about their little ones. How can you not? Well, any way I have enjoyed
your site and I will be back to see it often.

From Valerie
When our little 11 month old Shelby decides its bedtime, she goes in our bed and actually pulls down the covers. She lays on the bottom sheet with her head on a pillow. She hasn't figured out how to pull the covers back up yet. I've never seen a dog do this before, have you?

Hi! My names Alma and I own a gorgeous Basset Hound named Bertie. He give me hours of pleasure.Bertie is a real softie and has a really kind nature everyone loves him!!We got Bertie as a puppy two years ago.People find him really unusual because he is the only Basset in town.Bertie is really naughty and cheeky. If I ever have to scold him(which is a regular occurance!!!)he barks back at me.Bertie loves children and other dogs especially our neighbours dog.He will be three on the 11th of April we always have a cake and a Bithday party each year.Mad are'nt we!!Its alway Mum and my idea!!Ever since Bertie was a puppy he has always had a bad hip.I would love to hear your stories about your Basset Hound sometime. Great pix! And you posted pix of Piper -- perfect! *G* She's a little sweetheart, and a big handful! We spent the afternoon with her, and we have to keep her in the family room, but that little bugger is faster than a speeding bullet! If someone opens the door -- Whoosh! She's outta there and prancing around all over the place! (Mom and Dad are repainting their inside doors and frames -- she coulda been an albino basset if we weren't quick enough to catch her!)

We got her a new toy, and she loves him! He's a karate stuffed dog, and when you push on -- or bite on -- him, he makes four different karate noises. Bob is a black belt in Kung Fu, and he and Piper were going 'round and 'round with "Mr. Chop-Chop," as I call him! Piper got really worked up and was growling and barking at poor Mr. Chop-Chop! LOL!

We also took her a cushioned baby mirror (like they use to put on a baby's crib), because she just loves to look at herself! (So did Phoebe!) It's hilarious; she just sits and stares at herself. I've never seen a puppy do that before, until Phoebe. And now Piper. Piper does a couple of other odd things like Phoebe used to do as well. I think Phoebe had a "paw" in this match!

We're hanging up a blown-up photo of Phoebe, and a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem, framed, in the bedroom tonight -- over the candle where I have always prayed for Phoebe. The light will always be shining on my Phoebe.

I love my baby Piper too, just as much, and I've loved Priscilla for nearly 14 years. I've just never lost a baby before. I had "Bones" when I was a young girl, but my parents gave her away when they started breeding AKC Champion English bulldogs (they didn't get along). I still have a hard time with that. I didn't have to watch her die, at least, but still . . . I loved Bones; she was my first furbaby! I was so mad at my parents! Part of me still is. Darned bulldogs! Phooey on their trophies and ribbons -- I wanted my non-AKC Champion Bones!! She was the champion of my little heart! (Is that mushy or what??) ;-}

Anyway -- thanks for posting my precocious Piper on your puppy page! And thanks for keeping my precious Phoebe's memorial page; I appreciate that so much!!

Much love,
